Diary of Kael
We packed up camp in the early morning when we were approached by four men. The four men we saw walking in the other direction yesterday. I guess they had seen us and double backed. They looked the rough type. Not much in the mood for talking.
They see the vial in my belongings. They smile. They know what it is, what it contains. They refuse to tell me who they work for. The Elf zealots? the merchants guild still interested? Either way we can't let them leave the area knowing what they know. I draw my sword, as Valerya readies her knife. My sword takes the nearest one by surprise and I cut him down immediately. Valerya throws her knife into the throat of her nearest bandit and he drops. My momentum carries me round and my sword slices the throat of an unready bandit. The final bandit lunges at me with a roar. Valerya jumps over the dead body of her victim before my sword slices through the charging bandit's belly.
We hide the bodies and hurriedly pack and continue our journey North. Hoping to reach the forest before nightfall.
Into the forest
The ground becomes lush with vegetation the nearer the forest we get. Great flocks of birds are nested amongst the tall grasses.
We pick up the pace and make good time, the wilderness may be teeming with life, but we see little of it. We finally reach the edge of Avondale Forest, feeling safer being amongst the trees.
describe seeing a gloamspine
We move further into the forest until we come to a glade with young trees growing.
We see something.
Nothing we want to be near. In the center sits an ancient being. It emits a feeling of fear, dread. It is pale, it doesn't even appear to be alive.
The being sees us move and transforms into a large albino wolf. All teeth and claws and not looking at all friendly at our intrusion. It lunges at us in a full on attack. There is no way we can outrun it. We must stand our ground.
I swing as the beast charges at us but it's too quick and dodges out the way. It leaps over both of us and turns to attack. Setting its sights on Valerya. It slashes wildly but Valerya is too quick and the beast misses.
I charge at the beast before it recovers from missing Valerya and plunge my sword into its hind quarters. Causing a vicious wound. Valerya moves in whilst I keep the wolf occupied. The small knife is not enough to cause a wound. And to our horror the wolf appears to be slowly healing itself. The beast snarls and lunges at Valerya again. Seeing her blade as no danger to itself. Its claw causing a minor wound.
We need to end this quickly. My sword slashes wildly and slides off the wolfs sleek coat. Valerya lunges with her knife. But fails to even make contact. The wolf growls triumphantly. It deep cut in its flank closes up completely. I roll out the way and the wolf growls in frustration.
I slash in equal frustration cutting the beast deeply again. Valerya again attempts to distract the wolf at least allowing me to get another attack in. Again failing to penetrate the dense fur and skin. We avoid its attack.
The beast still wounded I hope to end this fight quickly. I cause a small tear in the wolfs face. We are slowly wearing it down. Valerya follows up with a similar wound, temporarily blinding the creature as blood pours down its face. Turning its anger at Valerya once again it goes in for the kill. Stumbling, the wolf crashes down hard on the ground.
Our moment could have arrived. With the wolf on the ground I plunge my sword into its neck severing an artery. Before our eyes the body of the wolf crumbles into dust and disappears. Behind us we hear a deep whine. Turning we see the ancient being. Back in its original form. We make haste to run back into the depths of the forest once again.
Walking North we hear a gentle humming ahead of us. We reach a huge bed of flowers. Me and Val look at each other. Neither of us have seen such flowers. We decide the only way forward is to walk through the bed of crystalline flowers as they seem to stretch on forever both east and west.
Taking one step into the great bloom trying to tread with care we are soon doubled over in pain as great whining noise fills our ears.
Unable to walk through the flowers due to the ear piercing noise they make when we try, we start walking east along the edge of the flowers until we can head north again. After a few minutes we see footprints. Our footprints. But how can that be? We haven't walked in a circle, have we? We continue to walk, and continue to see what appears to be our own marks in the forest floor.
We have no choice, we have to go through the flowers North. Stuffing our ears with moss and wrapping cloth around our heads in an attempt to muffle the noise we look a sight as we again carefully try to pick our way through the bed of flowers. The noise still enters our ears but not nearly as loud, or as painful as before. I track North trying to do as little damage to the flowers as possible which alleviates some of the piercing sound. Before long we reach the other side and back onto the moss covered forest floor.
We continue on…
